Callosa de Segura

Callosa is a typical inland Vega Baja town. It is nestled into the side of the very impressive Callosa Mountain and is a truly captivating town with something for each visitor ranging from the historical monuments to a wander through the wide avenues with their many shops, bars and restaurants or a trip to the picnic area at the start of the mountain walk.

- Town Centre: with a mixture of shops and restaurants.
- Tourist Office: more information about the Archaeological Museum, Hemp Museum, Holy Week Museum, Fiesta Museum, Old Slaughter House, Royal Granary, Nativity Museum and religious buildings including St Martins Church.
- La Pilarica Natural Park: excellent views towards the coast from the picnic spot and the start of a marked walking route to the top of the mountain.
- Cueva Ahumada Natural Park: close to the road with BBQ area and picnic benches, lots of walks are sign posted from here.
Ideas of places to twin Callosa de Segura with day or night
- If you are energetic then climb Callosa Mountain in the morning leaving from la Pilarica natural park or for a more sedate option try one of the flatter paths from the Cueva Ahumada natural park. Then celebrate with a cerveza in the typical Vega Baja village of Benejuzar or Jacarilla whilst soaking up the atmosphere of rural Spain.
- Spend a Saturday Morning enjoying the crowds shopping at the thriving street market of Almoradi then visit the picnic area at the la Pilarica natural park at the base of Callosa Mountain for peace, quiet and stunning views towards the sea.
- Spend the morning submerging yourself in the history of Callosa by visiting some of its museums then give yourself a break and some fresh air by a walk along the 1.6 km long marina promenade beside the new marina in Torrevieja.

Callosa de Segura Cueva Ahumada Natural Park

From here: follow any of the walking routes to explore the mountain. Each route has the distance and approximate time that it will take to complete on the sign post, so the choice is yours! There is a very well presented picnic area, with concrete tables and benches as well as some BBQ’s that you can use at certain times of the year only.
Top tip: if you are going to walk please remember basic mountain safety i.e. wear appropriate shoes, take enough food and water and make sure that you have told someone where you are going.
Callosa de Segura La Pilarica Natural Park

From here: the mountain, at around 600 meters high has a well marked walking route to its top, it starts from behind the hermitage. The base car park is a great place to visit, with fantastic views out towards the sea. There is a very well presented picnic area, with concrete tables and benches as well as some BBQ’s that you can use at certain times of the year only.

Callosa de Segura Town Centre

From here: visit the Tourist Office for more information about the Archaeological Museum, Hemp Museum, Holy Week Museum, Fiesta Museum which are all situated in the Old Slaughter House. There is also the Royal Granary and the Nativity museum to visit as well as the impressive blue domed St Martins Church.
