Villajoyosa / Vila Joiosa

The valor chocolate factory is one of many places to visit in Villajoyosa Spain

Villajoyosa as it is known in Spanish or La Vila Joiosa as it is called by the local people in Valencian literally means the 'joyful village'. It is famous as a centre for the production of chocolate, which could be the reason for its name! The town has three chocolate factories, all of which can be visited. The Valor Chocolate factory is perhaps the most famous, but there is also the Perez Factory and the Clavileno Factory, so you'll be spoilt for choice!

  • Villajoyosa Valor Chocolate Factory

    Parking: is on the side of the road wherever there is space.

    From here: the chocolate factory is right beside you enter for your tour of the museum.

    Top tip: tours are free and run every half hour Monday-Friday 10.00-13.00 & 16.00-19.00 and on a Saturday 10.00-13.00. If you want to be sure of a specific time then call in advance and reserve your place +34 966 810 451. For more information take a look at the official Valor website.

Teulada

Places to visit in and around Teulada are easy to find with this website

The little town of Teulada was once well renowned for the cultivation of the Muscatel grape which was used mainly to produce wine. The hillsides around the town were terraced by the occupying Moors who also put in the intricate irrigation systems. Grapes, almonds and citrus fruits are still grown in abundance, although agriculture is no longer the main source of income as tourism has taken its place.

Pedreguer

Pedreguer is one of many places to visit in and around the Costa Blanca

Pedreguer is a typical Spanish inland market town of the Costa Blanca north, an area also known as the Marina Alta. The town has a small historic centre with an interesting town hall, church and a very impressive looking Policia Municipal building. Many of the façades of the houses are painted in vivid colours, which gives Pedreguer a lively appearance.

Ondara

The town hall in Ondara is one of many places to visit in and around this area.

Ondara is a typical inland village of the Marina Alta. It has a charming old town area which is great for a wander and a coffee. There is the town hall, the casa cultural and the church to have a look at. Be sure not to miss the unusual Placa Mejor with its open air games tables. Ondara's bullring, which was built in 1957, is worth a visit as you can enter the ring and get a real feel for this national sport!

Denia

The marina is one of many places to visit in Denia Spain

Denia enjoys a privilege position right on the northern edge of the province of Alicante. It sits on the shores of the Mediterranean opposite the Balearic Islands and is backed by the impressive mountains of the the Montgo Natural park. Denia hosts many fiestas, but it is best know for the running of the bulls fiesta which takes place during July and has been declared as being of National Tourist Interest.

    Top tip: the castle is open everyday except the 25th December and the 1st January. Times vary depending on the month, but are roughly 10.00-13.00 & 15.00-18.00 during the winter and 10.00-13.30 & 17.00-19.30 in the summer. Tickets are 3€ for adults and 1€ for children.


     

  • Denia Ferry Port

  • Denia Pay Car Park 2

  • Denia Running of the Bulls Pub

    From here: the pub which is completely dedicated to everything to do with bullfighting and the running of the bulls is right beside you. 

  • Denia Torre del Gerro Viewpoint

    Parking: small car park at dead end, alternatively park near the restaurant and walk the 150 meters to the viewpoint.

    From here: access the steep path up to the tower by walking up the road called Via Lactea and then follow the markers.

Calpe / Calp

The rock d'ifach is one of many places to visit in Calpe Calp Spain

Calpe, also know spelt without the 'e' as Calp, is instantly recognised by the mighty Penon de Ifach, the huge rock which rises 332 meters out of the Mediterranean sea. This has stood guard over the town and witnessed its transformation from sleepy little fishing village into tourist magnet.

    From here: follow the road along the CV746, stopping where you want at any of the viewpoints or beaches.

  • Calpe Town Centre

    Top tip: Excursiones Marítimas offer trips to and from the Island of Tabarca. The prices and timetables vary depending on the time of the year, so check the boards and ask at the information hut or take a look at their website. It is normally 25€ for adults and 16€ for children for the return journey which takes about an hour and a half.
