Denia

The marina is one of many places to visit in Denia Spain

Denia enjoys a privilege position right on the northern edge of the province of Alicante. It sits on the shores of the Mediterranean opposite the Balearic Islands and is backed by the impressive mountains of the the Montgo Natural park. Denia hosts many fiestas, but it is best know for the running of the bulls fiesta which takes place during July and has been declared as being of National Tourist Interest.

    From here: walk down to the beach.

    Top tip: there are lots of roads that lead down to the beach, all of which are signed 'Platja' so you can stop wherever you want.

  • Denia Car Park 1

    Parking: is in any of the spaces beside the road or in the large gravelled car park and is free.

    From here: walk through the old town to the castle, museums and main shopping street, or cross the road to for the sandy beach. 

  • Denia Castle

    Parking: this is the coordinate for the castle, parking is either in car park 1 or pay car park 2.

    From here: follow the signs to the Centre Historic and the Castillo.

    Top tip: the castle is open everyday except the 25th December and the 1st January. Times vary depending on the month, but are roughly 10.00-13.00 & 15.00-18.00 during the winter and 10.00-13.30 & 17.00-19.30 in the summer. Tickets are 3€ for adults and 1€ for children.


     

  • Denia Ferry Port

    Parking: this is the coordinate for the ferry terminal, parking is on the road anywhere you can find a space or use car park 1.

    From here: the ticket office is inside the ferry terminal or buy your ticket in advance from the travel agencies or online.

  • Denia Fish Auction

    From here: walk along the pier to the fish market known as the La Lonja.

    Top tip: you can watch the fish auction from the gallery inside the hall, it is held Monday-Friday 17.00. 

  • Denia Marina

    Parking: is either in the car park at the start of the marina, or if there are spaces beside the bars and restaurants in the marina.

    Top tip: the approach to the park is via a residential zone, there is also a lovely little chapel with a garden containing the stations of the cross near the entrance to the park at N38o49.145 E0o06.445.


     

  • Denia Pay Car Park 2

    Parking: is in the pay car park beside the tourist office, make sure you display your ticket in your car.

    From here: the tourist office is opposite the car park.

    Top tip: this is a pay and display car park with a maximum stay duration of 127 minutes.


     

  • Denia Running of the Bulls Pub

    Parking: his is the coordinate for the pub, parking is either in car park 1 or pay car park 2.

    From here: the pub which is completely dedicated to everything to do with bullfighting and the running of the bulls is right beside you. 

  • Denia Torre del Gerro Viewpoint

    Parking: small car park at dead end, alternatively park near the restaurant and walk the 150 meters to the viewpoint.

    From here: access the steep path up to the tower by walking up the road called Via Lactea and then follow the markers. 

  • Denia Tram Station

    Parking: is anywhere you can find a space in the streets around the tram station and is free. Do not park in the pay and display car park opposite the station as it has a maximum stay duration of 127 minutes.

    From here: enter the tram station and buy your ticket from the ticket office or ticket machine.

Calpe / Calp

The rock d'ifach is one of many places to visit in Calpe Calp Spain

Calpe, also know spelt without the 'e' as Calp, is instantly recognised by the mighty Penon de Ifach, the huge rock which rises 332 meters out of the Mediterranean sea. This has stood guard over the town and witnessed its transformation from sleepy little fishing village into tourist magnet.

  • Calpe Parque Natural del Penon de Ifach

    From here: the entrance to the natural park is right beside the car park, enter and follow the marked walking trail around the park, through the tunnel in the rock and onto the seaward side of the Penon de Ifach for some amazing views! 

  • Calpe Scenic Driving Route

    Parking: this isn't a car park, but the coordinate for the start of the scenic drive to Moraira.

    From here: follow the road along the CV746, stopping where you want at any of the viewpoints or beaches.

    Top tip: the coordinate for the finish of the scenic drive in Moraira is N38o40.875 E0o07.095. 

  • Calpe Town Centre

    Parking: is in the underground car park Sol y Mar and is charged for by length of stay, there are lots of other small pay car parks, so you can park in any of these.

    From here: explore the town centre or walk down onto the south end beach.

    Top tip: to avoid paying for car parking and driving through the busy streets of Calpe Town park beside the Salinas and walk.

Everyone loves a picnic, so pack the sandwiches, crisps, fruit and drink into the cool box and head to the peace and tranquillity that you'll find at all of our selected picnic spots. Some offer BBQ facilities, you just need to take the charcoal and fire lights! Small word of warning, toilet facilities are available but are often close.

  • Benejuzar Sanctuary

    From here: take a walk around this sanctuary (dedicated to Nuestra Senora del Pilar) and admire the stunning views across the valley to the Callosa de Segura mountain, a great place for a picnic or just to read a book.

  • Callosa de Segura Cueva Ahumada Natural Park

    Parking: in the car park and is free.

    From here: follow any of the walking routes to explore the mountain. Each route has the distance and approximate time that it will take to complete on the sign post, so the choice is yours! There is a very well presented picnic area, with concrete tables and benches as well as some BBQ’s that you can use at certain times of the year only.

    Top tip: if you are going to walk please remember basic mountain safety i.e. wear appropriate shoes, take enough food and water and make sure that you have told someone where you are going.

  • El Hondo Nature Park Visitors Centre

    Parking: is in the car park and is free, it is best to park in the first car park (furthest away from the centre) as this never gets locked.

    From here: walk to the Visitors Centre to find out more about the park, the toilets are on the opposite side of the building to the front door and the picnic area is to the far side of the building looking out over the reserve.

    Top tip: pack a picnic and take the binoculars!

  • La Mata Natural Park

    Parking: is in the gravelled car park and is free.

    From here: follow the wooden walkway to the picnic area and bird watching tower, the walkway is great for pushchairs and wheelchairs, or walk uphill to the pigeon cotes and then follow anyone of the unmarked trails through the fields of vines back down to the lake edge.


     

  • Orihuela Pinar de Bonanza Natural Park

    Parking: is either near the entrance gate on the side of the road or inside the park next to the wooden huts.

    From here: walk or drive past the entrance gate (it is closed during the night) turn right and follow the road up to the wooden huts. This is the picnic area and the start of several marked walking and cycling paths.

    Top tip: thepark entrance is on camino roads so they may not be marked properly on your Sat Nav.  Exit the N340 where there is a sign for Pinar de Bonanza between the Ramon Transportes and the Chimenea Martinez buildings, continue along the tarmac road which is Calle 'A', turn right into Calle 'B' then left into Calle 'C' at the end of which is the entrance gate to the park.

  • Redovan Nuestra Senora de la Salud Natural Park

El Hondo Nature Park

There are lots of things to do in the El Hondon Nature Park

El Hondo (also confusingly known as El Fondo) has been a Nature Park since 1988 and is on the RAMSAR wetlands conservation lists and is classified as a Special Protection Area for Birds, or ZEPA. This park is part of what used to be the Elche Lagoon, almost completely drained from the 18th century onwards. Today there are two controlled reservoirs around which form a series of ponds and salt marshes and these in turn are surrounded by fields and palm plantations, making it a pretty place to visit at any time of the year.

    From here: go past the Visitors Centre and start on the wooden walkway, once this has finished follow the path to the small white building which is beside an irrigation canal and lots of palm trees, turn left and continue to the lookout tower, then turn left infront of the large irrigation canal following the white and green posts back to the car park.

    Top tip: pack a picnic and take the binoculars!

Redovan

The village centre is one of many places to visit in and around Redovan Spain

Redovan is found on the southern side of the imposing Callosa Mountain. It is much smaller than the neighbouring town of Callosa, but is packed full of charm and character like all the other inland villages of this area. Take time to explore the village having a look at the impressive arches of the very modern bandstand in the Plaza Paz, see the old and new town halls which face another and take a peek in the church and the nearby Semana Santa Museum. The natural park of Nuestra Senora de la Salud is worth a stop.

    From here: explore the streets, taking in the Plaza Paz and the impressive arches for a bandstand and the Plaza del Ayuntamiento with the old and the new town hall. The Semana Santa Museum is a short walk uphill from the town hall along Calle de San Miguel.

San Pedro del Pinatar

The mud baths are one of many places to visit in San Pedro del Pinatar Spain

San Pedro, as it is more commonly known, is the most northerly of all the towns and villages that sit on the shores of the Mar Menor and is well worth a visit. There are lots of places to discover such as the information centre for the regional park, marina, sand dunes and salt flats, as well as its beach and promenade. It is easy to spend a whole day here at the beach or in the town centre which is found around the church square.

    From here: visit the centre for information about the regional park and to see its various exhibits and collect a map and leaflet. It is open all year Tuesday-Sunday 10.00-14.00 and 15.00-18.00.

    Top tip: if you are leaving your car here and cycling around the reserve it is best to park on the road as the gates to the car park are locked during siesta and at the end of the day.

  • San Pedro del Pinatar Salt Marshes & Sand Dunes

    Parking: is in any of the car parking areas that you pass on the road going to the marina, it gets very busy during high season, so get here early in the morning.

    From here: you can explore the nature reserve by following any of the well marked routes through the salt marshes and sand dues on foot or by bike.

Pilar de la Horadada & Pinar de Campoverde

The town centre is one of many places to visit in Pilar de la Horadada Spain

Pilar de la Horadada is the most southerly town in the province of Alicante and is the administrative capital of the neighbouring places of Torre de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras and Pinar de Campoverde. The area has much to offer including almost 5 km of coastline, a marina, the Rio Seco Natural Park and an 18 hole golf course.

Orihuela

There are so many places to visit in Orihuela Spain

Orihuela has one of the largest cultural heritages of any town or city in this area and was home to the famous Spanish poet Miguel Hernandez. So if it is museums that you love, then head to the Centro Historico and, most importantly to the very helpful tourist office to ask them for more information. Even if you are not a museum lover, Orihuela is still worth a visit, if only to experience the boutique shops, the tapas bars, the Tuesday morning market, plazas, and the real Spanish atmosphere which Orihuela has in abundance.

  • Orihuela Rio Segura Walking Cycling Route

    Parking: is in the car park of the Ociopia shopping mall and is free.

    From here: walk or cycle along the banks of the Rio Segura. To go towards the coast and Guardamar cycle through Orihuela town. The path goes past Benejuzar, Algorfa, Formentera, Rojales and finishes 30 kilometres away at the marina in Guardamar. This route can be done as one long journey from Orihuela to Guardamar or you can use the villages as starting/stopping points. To go inland towards the city of Murcia cycle in the other direction away from Orihuela.

    Top tip: go with friends and two cars, leave one car in the village where you want to finish and one at the start!! Or cycle to the city of Murcia and take the train back to Orihuela!!

  • Orihuela Seminary of San Miguel

    Parking: is in pay car park 1 and is charged according to the length of stay, or you can drive up to the seminary, but parking is very limited.

    From here: stunning views out over the roof tops of Orihuela, the seminary which is a school for religious learning can only be visited as part of an organised tour.

    Top tip: walk up to the seminary using the footpath beside the winding road and walk down using the road at first, then go through the small metal gate which leads down to the Museum of the Reconquest.

  • Orihuela Theatro Circo

    From here: walk from the car park and follow the signs for the tourist office for more information about the Cathedral, Bishops Palace, Seminary of San Miguel, Saint Domingo’s School, Santuary of our lady of Monserrate,  Museum of Reconquest, Rubalcava Palace, Museum of Sacred Art, Museum of Miguel Hernandez (Poet), Easter Museum, Archaeological Museum, the City Walls Museum, the Casino, the Teatro Circo and its many, many churches.

    Top tip: for free parking using the Ociopia shopping mall and walk the short distance into Orihuela.

  • Orihuela Town Centre

    From here: the car park is in the town centre, so just explore! Follow our Orihuela walking route and stop at the Tourist Office to collect a free map which has all of the museums marked on it to really get to know the town. 

    Top tip: for free parking using the Ociopia shopping mall and walk the short distance into Orihuela.

  • Orihuela Train Station

    Main Stations along the line: north to Elche Parque and Alicante, south to Murcia.  

    Parking: is in the station car park and is charged according to the length of stay, alternatively you can park for free if you can find a space in any side street.

    From here: the train goes every hour (more frequently at peak times) south to Murcia or north to Elche and Alicante.

    Top tip: the line is used by various regional operates, but you can find the timetable using the Renfe website. Click on the word welcome to change the site to English.

    For the quicker medium distance trains which just stop at Murcia, Elche and Alicante the site works using the end stations of each line only, so in this case Murcia and Alicante. In the drop down menus on the Departure select Murcia if you want to go to Elche or Alicante and Alicante if you want to go to Murcia. In the drop down menu for Destination select the end station that you are going to, select the date, then click search. To find the time that the train stops at Orihuela click on the train that you want in the Train/Route column and the time table will pop up. 

    For the slower local trains which stop at all the stations click on the word Commuter (Cercanias in Spanish) on the left side of the screen underneath the words Products and Services of. Still on the left of the screen click on Murcia/Alicante. In the Departure Point dropdown menu select your departure station, in this case Orihula. In the Destination dropdown menu select the station you are travelling to which will be Murcia, Elche Parque or Alicante. Select the date of travel and then click on search and the timetable will appear. To find the times for the return journey, move your mouse over the words Request Return Times on the Day and once the hand symbol appears click. The Departure Point, Destination and timetable will change to the one for the return journey.

Callosa de Segura

The mountain is one of many places to visit in Callosa de Segura Spain

Callosa is a typical inland Vega Baja town. It is nestled into the side of the very impressive Callosa Mountain and is a truly captivating town with something for each visitor ranging from the historical monuments to a wander through the wide avenues with their many shops, bars and restaurants or a trip to the picnic area at the start of the mountain walk.

  • Callosa de Segura La Pilarica Natural Park

    Parking: in the car park and is free, or leave your car further down the hill.

    From here: the mountain, at around 600 meters high has a well marked walking route to its top, it starts from behind the hermitage. The base car park is a great place to visit, with fantastic views out towards the sea. There is a very well presented picnic area, with concrete tables and benches as well as some BBQ’s that you can use at certain times of the year only.

  • Callosa de Segura Town Centre

    Parking: is on the street and is free, if you can\'t find a space try any of the side streets.

    From here: visit the Tourist Office for more information about the Archaeological Museum, Hemp Museum, Holy Week Museum, Fiesta Museum which are all situated in the Old Slaughter House. There is also the Royal Granary and the Nativity museum to visit as well as the impressive blue domed St Martins Church.

  • Guardamar del Segura Alfonso Park

    Parking: is on the road and free, it gets very busy in the summer, so you might have to park further away and walk or use the pay car park.

    From here: walk towards the entrance for the Alfonso Park which was created to stop the town from becoming buried in the sand. There are many paths through the park and it is great for a walk, cycle or picnic.

    Parking tip: if it is really busy try the pay car park, look at the town hall then walk down the road to the right of the building towards the sea, past the Reina Sofia Park, the entrance to the Alfonso Park is on the left.

    Top tip: you can walk through the Alfonso Park all the way to the marina and back along the beach.

  • Guardamar del Segura Beach North End

    Parking: is in the Marina and costs 1€ for however long you want to stay, insert coin on entrance and scan ticket on exit.

    From here: walk around the marina and exit through gate to north end of the beach, the pier and the Alfonso Park.

    Top tip: this is a great place to park during the height of the summer if you\'ve arrived too late at the beach to get parked in the town.

  • Guardamar del Segura Beach South End

    Parking: is on the road and free, it gets very busy during high season, so you might have to park further away and walk or get here early in the morning.

    From here: walk down onto the beach, turn right for La Mata or left for centre of Guardamar and its promenade.

    From here: you'll easily spot the children's funfair which is here every night during the summer.

    Parking tip: if it is really busy try the pay car park, look at the town hall then walk down the road to the right of the building towards the sea, past the Reina Sofia Park the Funfair is on the right.

    Top tip: arrive early and have a picnic on the beach whilst the sunbathers are departing, then enjoy your evening knowing that you are already parked.

  • Guardamar del Segura Marina & Marina Promenade

    From here: walk around the marina, exit gate to take a stroll along the promenade out to sea to see the fishermen or along the beach to see the sand dunes or through the Alfonso Park.

  • Guardamar del Segura Market Large Wednesday Morning

  • Guardamar del Segura Night Market

    Parking: is on the road and free, it gets very busy in the evening, so you might have to park further away and walk or use the pay car park underground for the Town Centre.

    From here: you'll easily spot the night market which is here every night during the summer.

    Parking tip: if it is really busy try the pay car park, look at the town hall then walk down the road to the right of the building towards the sea, the stalls will be opposite the Reina Sofia Park on your left.

    From here: walk downhill towards the beach, turn left for start of promenade with its mix of bars, cafes and restaurants.

    Parking tip: if it is really busy try the pay car park, look at the town hall then walk down the road to the right of the building towards the sea, past the Reina Sofia and Alfonso Park to the T junction, turn left for start of promenade with its mix of bars, cafes and restaurants.

  • Guardamar del Segura Reina Sofia Park

    From here: walk towards the entrance for the Reina Sofia Park with its ponds full of terrapins and ducks, paths and floodlit children's play area, you might even be lucky enough to see a peacock!

    Parking tip: if it is really busy try the pay car park, look at the town hall then walk down the road to the right of the building towards the sea, the entrance to the Reina Sofia Park is on your right.

    Top tip: visit during the evening in the summer, it is open until midnight, and enjoy the close by night market and children's funfair, even have a stroll on the moonlit beach.

  • Guardamar del Segura Rio Segura Walking Cycling Route

    Parking: is in the Marina and costs 1€ for however long you want to stay, insert coin on entrance and scan ticket on exit. Or to miss out the 2 kilometres of pavement join the path at the towns entrance by the roundabout with the waterfall fountain on it that you pass to get to the marina. To find the path walk or cycle under the bridge keeping the river on your right.

    From here: walk or cycle along the banks of the Rio Segura (pavement for first 2 kilometres then it changes to hard ground). The path goes past Rojales, Formentera, Algorfa and Benejuzar and finishes 30 kilometres away in Orihuela. This route can be done as one long journey from Guardamar to Orihuela or you can use the villages as starting/stopping points.

    Top tip: go with friends and two cars, leave one car in the village where you want to finish and one at the start!!

  • Guardamar del Segura Tourist Office

    From here: walk into the Church square and locate the Tourist Office in the corner next to the Town Hall where you can find out more information about the Castle (ruin), Archaeology Museum, Engineer Mira Museum, the Moorish ruins in the Dunes which is only visitable on the Tourist Train.

  • Guardamar del Segura Tourist Train

    From here: walk into the Church square and locate the Tourist Office in the corner beside the Town Hall where you can book for the Tourist Train, it operates during the summer only.
