Gran Alacant sits high on the cliffs overlooking the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. It is in a fantastic location just minutes south of the vibrant and fashionable city of Alicante and north of the traditional resort of Santa Pola.

    From here: walk along the wooden walk ways over the sand dunes onto the beach.

  • Gran Alacant Beach Car Park

    Parking: is in the car park area and is free.

    From here: walk out of the car park area and turn left for the wooden walk ways that lead onto the beach.

    Top tip: the car park gets very busy during high season, so come early or take the tourist train from the centro comercial.

    From here: walk along the road to the turning circle and then follow the path to the lighthouse.

    Top tip: parking is limited here, so you can park at the Centro Comercial and take the tourist train (charges apply). To park right beside the lighthouse take the turning on the N332 between Gran Alacant and Santa Pola which is marked with the sign post that says El Faro Santa Pola .

    Parking: is on the side of the road and is free, it get busy here on market days so you might have to park further away and walk.

    From here: the park which contains a childrens playground, adult fitness equimpment and a kiosk, is opposite here. 

  • Gran Alacant Promenade Arenal

    From here: walk along the promenade into Arenales del Sol where there are lots of shops, cafes and restauarants, or down onto the beach. 

  • Gran Alacant Tourist Train

    Parking: is in the car park and is free

    From here: this is one of the the 11 stops for the tourist train. It opperates during most of the year and is schedualled to leave here at 25 mins past the hour, tickets cost 2€ for one circuit. For more information about the route and timetable take a look at the official website.

  • Gran Alacant Viewpoint

    Parking: is on the side of the road and is free.

    From here: walk along the road to the turning circle and then follow any of the paths to the lighthouse. There are benches at both viewpoints eitherside of the lighthouse, but the best views of the Island of Tabarca are to be found at the viewpoint just past the lighthouse.

    Top tip: parking is limited here, so you can park at the Centro Comercial and take the tourist train (charges apply). 

  • Gran Alacant Village Centre

    From here: the small parade of shops and resturants is opposite, the library, townhall and childrens playground are beside the car park. 

  • Santa Pola Scenic Drive Northern Point

    From here: this is the coordinate for the northern point in Gran Alacant of the coastal road which runs beside the sea underneath the cliffs from Santa Pola. 

    Top tip: it gets very busy especially during high season, so is sometimes best avoided in the summer.

  • Santa Pola Scenic Drive Southern Point

    From here: this is the coordinate for the southern point in Santa Pola of the coastal road which runs beside the sea underneath the cliffs from Gran Alacant.  

    Top tip: it gets very busy especially during high season, so is sometimes best avoided in the summer.

Polop

The mountains around Polop are one of many places to visit here.

The village of Polop is located inland in the Costa Blanca North in an area known as the Marina Alta. The local economy is based mainly on agriculture, so much of the surrounding countryside is covered in polythene to act as giant greenhouses.

Teulada

Places to visit in and around Teulada are easy to find with this website

The little town of Teulada was once well renowned for the cultivation of the Muscatel grape which was used mainly to produce wine. The hillsides around the town were terraced by the occupying Moors who also put in the intricate irrigation systems. Grapes, almonds and citrus fruits are still grown in abundance, although agriculture is no longer the main source of income as tourism has taken its place.

Pedreguer

Pedreguer is one of many places to visit in and around the Costa Blanca

Pedreguer is a typical Spanish inland market town of the Costa Blanca north, an area also known as the Marina Alta. The town has a small historic centre with an interesting town hall, church and a very impressive looking Policia Municipal building. Many of the façades of the houses are painted in vivid colours, which gives Pedreguer a lively appearance.

Los Urrutias

The beach is one of many places to visit in and around Los Urrutias Spain

Los Urrutias is a charming small village on the shores of the Mar Menor. It has a beautiful church and plaza, which gives the village an old-world feel. Both the beach and the promenade are long and merge with the beach and promenade of Punta Brava to the north. There is a tiny marina which just adds to its charm, a good time to visit is on a Thursday morning when the village hosts its weekly market.

    Parking: is on the road beside any of the traditional 1 storey houses.  To enter the path walk back the few yards to the entrance of the road and on your left hand side you will see the path. As you turn the corner turn right for Formentera, Rojales and Guardamar Marina, turn left for Benejuzar and Orihuela.

    From here: walk or cycle along beside the river. This route can be done as one long journey from Guardamar to Orihuela or you can use the villages as starting/stopping points.

    Top tip: go with friends and two cars, leave one car in the village where you want to finish and one at the start!!

  • Algorfa Village Centre

    From here: you are in the centre of the village, so just take a leisurely stroll and explore! There is a nice selection of cafes, bars and restaurants to enjoy.

Daya Vieja

The village centre is one of many places to visit in Daya Vieja Spain

Twinned with its neighbouring village of Daya Nueva, Daya Vieja is the older of the two and is slightly smaller. It is a typical inland village with its church, square, selection of bars and cafes as well as a small street market which is held every Friday morning.

The village centre is one of many places to visit in Dolores Spain

Dolores is one of the largest inland villages in this area. The large iconic church stands proudly in the large palm tree lined church square. It is slightly busier than some of its neighbouring smaller villages and so has a good selection of shops, bars, cafes and restaurants, but means that you can explore without worrying about getting lost!
