Denia

The marina is one of many places to visit in Denia Spain

Denia enjoys a privilege position right on the northern edge of the province of Alicante. It sits on the shores of the Mediterranean opposite the Balearic Islands and is backed by the impressive mountains of the the Montgo Natural park. Denia hosts many fiestas, but it is best know for the running of the bulls fiesta which takes place during July and has been declared as being of National Tourist Interest.

  • Denia Beach North End Playa les Marines

    From here: walk down to the beach.

    Top tip: there are lots of roads that lead down to the beach, all of which are signed 'Platja' so you can stop wherever you want. 

  • Denia Beach South End Playa de la Marineta Cassiana

    From here: cross the road to the beach. 

  • Denia Car Park 1

    Parking: is in any of the spaces beside the road or in the large gravelled car park and is free.

    From here: walk through the old town to the castle, museums and main shopping street, or cross the road to for the sandy beach. 

  • Denia Castle

    Parking: this is the coordinate for the castle, parking is either in car park 1 or pay car park 2.

    From here: follow the signs to the Centre Historic and the Castillo.

    Top tip: the castle is open everyday except the 25th December and the 1st January. Times vary depending on the month, but are roughly 10.00-13.00 & 15.00-18.00 during the winter and 10.00-13.30 & 17.00-19.30 in the summer. Tickets are 3€ for adults and 1€ for children.


     

  • Denia Ferry Port

    Parking: this is the coordinate for the ferry terminal, parking is on the road anywhere you can find a space or use car park 1.

    From here: the ticket office is inside the ferry terminal or buy your ticket in advance from the travel agencies or online.

    Top tip: for timetables take a look at the official website 

  • Denia Fish Auction

    Parking: this is the coordinate for the fish auction, parking is in car park 1 and is free.

    From here: walk along the pier to the fish market known as the La Lonja.

    Top tip: you can watch the fish auction from the gallery inside the hall, it is held Monday-Friday 17.00. 

  • Denia Marina

    Parking: is either in the car park at the start of the marina, or if there are spaces beside the bars and restaurants in the marina.

    From here: walk to the marina along the road or along the elevated marina wall.  

  • Denia Market Medium Monday Morning

  • Denia Montgo Natural Park

    From here: enter the park beside the information board and follow any of the marked trails.

    Top tip: the approach to the park is via a residential zone, there is also a lovely little chapel with a garden containing the stations of the cross near the entrance to the park at N38o49.145 E0o06.445.


     

  • Denia Pay Car Park 2

    Parking: is in the pay car park beside the tourist office, make sure you display your ticket in your car.

    From here: the tourist office is opposite the car park.

    Top tip: this is a pay and display car park with a maximum stay duration of 127 minutes.


     

  • Denia Running of the Bulls Pub

    Parking: his is the coordinate for the pub, parking is either in car park 1 or pay car park 2.

    From here: the pub which is completely dedicated to everything to do with bullfighting and the running of the bulls is right beside you. 

  • Denia Torre del Gerro Viewpoint

    Parking: small car park at dead end, alternatively park near the restaurant and walk the 150 meters to the viewpoint.

    From here: access the steep path up to the tower by walking up the road called Via Lactea and then follow the markers. 

  • Denia Tram Station

    Parking: is anywhere you can find a space in the streets around the tram station and is free. Do not park in the pay and display car park opposite the station as it has a maximum stay duration of 127 minutes.

    From here: enter the tram station and buy your ticket from the ticket office or ticket machine.

    From here: exit the car park and turn left, walk downhill and follow the road as it bends to the left past the town hall (ajuntament), enter the historic centre and explore.

    From here: exit the car park and turn left, walk downhill and follow the road as it bends to the left past the town hall (ajuntament), enter the historic centre and continue straight ahead to the church following all the shopping trolleys!

Torre Pacheco

The town centre is one of many places to visit in Torre Pacheco Murcia Spain

Torre Pacheco is a large inland town which is typical of the area. Its industry is mainly based on agriculture, but it has lots to offer everyone. The town centre is relatively spread out, the best day to visit is on a Saturday morning when the lively street market adds to the atmosphere. There is a train station which, on a normal weekday has about six trains to the city of Cartagena and Murcia.

    Top tip: it is often necessary to book tickets in advance, so for all the specific details about the event see the official IFEPA website (it takes a while to load)!

    From here: walk to the entrance to pay car park 1 and turn left, the main high street is about 50 metres in front of you.

  • Torre Pacheco Train Station

    From here: enter the train station and purchase your ticket.

    Top Tip: this train line is used by various regional operators, but you can find the timetable using the Renfe website. Click on the word welcome to change the site to English. The site works using the end stations of each line only, so in this case Cartagena and Murcia. In the drop down menus on the Departure select Cartagena if you want to go to Murcia or Murcia if you want to go to Cartagena. In the drop down menu for Destination select the station that you are going to, select the date, then click search. To find the time that the train stops at Torre Pacheco click on the train that you want in the Train/Route column and the time table will pop up. 

Los Alcazares

The unspoilt beach is one of many places to visit in Los Alcazares Murcia Spain

Los Alcazares is situated right on the shores of the Mar Menor. It is very seasonal as it has a resident population of about 12,000 which increases to about 100,000 during the summer!!

    Top tip: Golf Delux is a miniature golf course, the holes have been reduced to a maximum of 100 meters but still contain all the normal hazards like streams and ponds, hills, fences, bunkers and pebbles. Prices including all equipment are 7€ for adults 7€ and 5€ for under 16’s. The centre is open 7 days a week from 10.00am until late.     Top tip: you will find the Hotel Balneario La Encarnacion along the promenade, it is worth stopping here and going through the bar to the characterful courtyard. This hotel was built in 1904 and was used in the filming of ‘The Garden of Eden’ when it was cosmetically transformed into the 1920's French riviera hotel Des Voyageurs.

  • Los Alcazares Town Centre

    From here: walk out of to the entrance to pay car park 1, the main high street is straight in front of you, or walk behind the town hall for the small pedestrian area.

    Top tip: (info correct for 2011) the boat trip around the Islands of the Mar Menor departs on a Monday & Wednesday at 10.40 & 17.40 and on a Friday & Saturday 10.40, it costs 11€. The trip to the Island Grosa on the other side of the La Manga Strip departs on a Friday at 17.40 only and costs 11€. Both journeys last about 2 hours.

Pilar de la Horadada & Pinar de Campoverde

The town centre is one of many places to visit in Pilar de la Horadada Spain

Pilar de la Horadada is the most southerly town in the province of Alicante and is the administrative capital of the neighbouring places of Torre de la Horadada, Mil Palmeras and Pinar de Campoverde. The area has much to offer including almost 5 km of coastline, a marina, the Rio Seco Natural Park and an 18 hole golf course.

San Miguel de Salinas

San Miguel de Salinas

The village of San Miguel de Salinas sits above the Lagunas of Torrevieja. This quaint inland village has a pleasant church square, adequate shopping and plenty of choice of international cuisine at the many bars, cafes and restaurants. The village is always busy on Wednesday mornings as it is street market day.
